Postcards from the Future

This series of 24 paintings from 2009 to 2011 are oil and charcoal on canvas on panel.

“Postcards are more than a ‘picture place.’ They are a vehicle; an image with a message, an implied method of transmission, a source and destination. And, they have substance in real time. While these paintings appear as pictures (of somewhere), they also exist as physical objects (like a postcard) and evidence of the visible support (the painted panel that is also part of the image) anchors the work in the present moment. They are paintings which are not only a place in the mind, but documents at hand. [The paintings in this series are much smaller than most of my other work.]”  WL
